| Old Space Sept 23rd, after meeting Blackstone Academy Students for the first time |
This semester was a challenge for both Blackstone students and RISD students. Our move to our new studio seemed to guide projects toward a process of owning a "space" of their own. This manifested in a variety of ways from painting the walls to the new space to creating a walking ritual. Students slowly began to feel comfortable in the studio.

Blackstone Academy Students are bussed to the studio for part of their afternoon courses. They earn credit at school for their participation in Catalyst Arts. Catalyst asks both groups of students to challenge themselves to become self directive young people. The learning process to develop skills to become an entrepreneurial creative thinker is a curricular initiative of both schools: RISD and Blackstone Academy. It is through this experiential process that students learn of themselves in the context of who they can be in a network of social relationships.

RISD student mentors bring in new media tools to experiment documentation with Blackstone students. Video, digital cameras and a variety of audio equipment was often experimented with at the studio. Many times RISD students are learning the equipment at the same time as Blackstone students, teaching each other new toys to play with.
